This is great! I would love for the browser to be zoomed out a bit and not move with head movement to be able to see it better. An image viewer for panoramas and 360 images would be nice too.
Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah, I'm in the process of making the UX and UI a whole lot better, including customizing where exactly it sits, as everyone seems to prefer it differently :) Being able to use it as an image viewer I hadn't even considered, sounds like a reasonable thing to support, thanks for the suggestion, will definitely add it to the list of stuff to add!
Oh yeah, something like that wouldn't be so hard I figure and would make sense, will investigate!
An in-app web browser might be slightly harder to pull off, but I'm not 100% sure until I dig deeper. My first instinct was to do it the other way, find a way to make Chrome/Firefox be able to open up MatineeVR if there is compatible formats/playback found, would that make sense to you instead of a in-app web browser or sounds not so good?
Thanks for this! This is a great first step for VR video playback on the Frame. If we can get VP9 & AV1 codec support and 10Bit decoding, the playback engine portion will be pretty solid. In addition, adding tilt functionality would be great!
VP9 support + tilt (I called it "roll") was included in the 0.0.8 release made just ~3 hours ago! :) Will try to get AV1 and 10bit into it soon too I hope!
If MatineeVR doesn't work for you, there is another alternative available here on Itch too, not made by me (developer of MatineeVR), but might work better for some: https://0x5311f56b.itch.io/gantry
Well, it's basically just a frontend for ffmpeg, same thing more or less, just different library for playback. I used what I found existing on the Frame itself already.

A DeoVR like Remote Control API https://deovr.com/documentation#remote-control would be grand!
Also, an in app web browser that can open direct media links in the VR player.

Tried to install Gantry but just closes SteamVR and doesn't install successful. I'll stick with Matinee, good stuff.
Why not just a frontend for mpv/mplayer?
